The Story
Making a dream come true
Clearcreek Country Vineyard started from the dream of Gary Evans, who wanted a small vineyard upon retirement from his 30 year engineering job at Harley Davidson in Pennsylvania. Gary planted the acre vineyard between 2006 to 2007. He and his wife, Shirley, would drive back and forth from Pennsylvania to cultivate the vines for over 3 years before his eventual retirement in 2009. Upon his retirement, Gary and Shirley moved to Amanda to settle in and work full time in the vineyard to get it ready for production. Tragedy struck as Gary suddenly passed away in January of 2010, which was traumatizing for Shirley and the entire Evans’ family. It seemed as though Gary’s dream had came to an end before it was fully realized.
Devastated by the loss of her husband, Shirley was not sure what to do with the vineyard. She wanted so desperately to make Gary’s dream come true. Family rallied around her through the tough days and were on hand to tie up loose ends with the property and the wine that needed bottled. Before she knew it, it was harvest time. Gary’s nephew, Randy stepped up to see what he could do to help. He tried his hand at making the wine. At first it was overwhelming as Randy knew nothing about wine making. He actually did not drink wine which was even more difficult because he did not know if it really tasted very good. But he did not give up.
He would sit down and study Gary’s meticulous notes on the entire process of making wine. And sure enough, he started understanding how to make good wine.
Before long, a partnership was formed between Randy, his wife, Christine, and Shirley in 2010. Randy continued to follow Gary’s instructions and learned how to grow and care for the vines. The next, and most important, step was to see if anyone would drink what Randy had produced. Many volunteered to taste the wine and the dream of opening the winery came to life. Seeing that owning and operating a vineyard and tasting room was becoming a reality, Shirley took the steps to become a licensed vineyard.
What started out as a very uncertain future, became an amazing adventure for Shirley, Randy and Christine.
A small tasting room was built on the property in 2013. In June of 2014, Gary's dream came true as Clearcreek Country Vineyard opened it’s doors. Because of the rapid growth of the vineyard, in 2018, the decision was made to move the tasting room to the main house in order to provide more space for customers.
Family has been a huge part of the growth and success of Clearcreek Country Vineyard. Shirley’s brother-in-law, along with her nieces and nephews, were vital in helping shape CCV into what it is today. Jim, Randy’s dad, and Shirley’s nieces Aly and Missy generously sacrificed countless hours to support the vineyard. Today, Randy and Christine’s children continue to serve wherever needed—from the tasting room and vineyard to social media and special events. None of this would have been possible without family. For 12 years, CCV has been blessed with wonderful memories made alongside loved ones, and just as many with customers who have truly become friends.
2025 marked another year of change for Clearcreek Country Vineyard. After 14 years of tending the vines and managing the business from off property, Randy and Christine officially moved onto the vineyard. As they look ahead, they’re excited for all that 2026 has in store. New wines will be introduced, along with the return of some longtime favorites. The Corn Maze will enter its 4th year, Music Bingo will continue monthly, and food trucks will be on hand to make each visit even more enjoyable. They’re also planning a special celebration in honor of America’s 250th year—so stay tuned for what’s to come.
Their dream for the vineyard has always been beautifully simple: craft and serve great wine, spark meaningful conversations, and offer a place where time seems to slow down. Randy and Christine want this to be a true escape from the noise and rush of everyday life—a place to exhale, linger a little longer, and truly relax. By staying on mission and focusing on being just a winery, they’re committed to preserving the heart of a small business and the charm of country living. It’s about unhurried moments, friendly faces, open skies, and a welcoming atmosphere where life feels a little simpler and a lot sweeter.
They’d love to have you stop by. Pick up your favorite bottle or stay for a glass. Randy and Christine look forward to enjoying some porch sits with you to share the story of their Uncle Gary and his passion for wine making. You just might get to meet the whole family as they love to bring their friends to share in the experience. Check back in for updates and we hope to see you soon!
The Tasting Room, Porch, Barn & The Farmer’s Market
The Tasting Room and Porch are open to the public every Saturday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Guests can enjoy a tasting of four wines for $8, or purchase wine by the glass for $9 or by the bottle (ranging from $19.95–$22.95). We occasionally feature slushies and seasonal wine drinks as well.
Our wraparound porch is always open, but spring, summer, and fall evenings are the best time to enjoy peaceful “porch sits” with beautiful sunsets and a truly relaxing countryside atmosphere.
Starting the first week of May, you can also find us most Saturdays at the Keller Farmers Market in Lancaster, Ohio, until grape harvest begins.
Every October, we host our popular, family-friendly Corn Maze on the property. During this time, our tasting room moves outdoors to the barn, giving guests a spacious, festive area to enjoy wine, bonfires, and fall-themed drinks while experiencing the maze.
We welcome food trucks when available, but due to our peaceful, off-the-beaten-path location, they aren’t always able to join us. That said, guests are always welcome to bring their own food, carry-out from local restaurants, or even order via DoorDash. We also occasionally offer prepackaged meats and cheeses for purchase to enjoy with your wine.
